GRAMMAR by Victorio Marasigan
1
i grabbed on to your hand
as you turned to walk away from me
(you intended for this to be the last time)
my fingers closed tighter and tighter on
less and less of yours
until they grasped hopelessly
the nothing between us
you had let go some time back
or maybe your heart never truly grabbed a hold
2
you tried to tell me before any of this began
we were never meant to last
it was in the stars
i kissed you then for two reasons:
so you couldn’t see the stars
and to prove you wrong
but i couldn’t kiss you forever
eventually your eyes would find them again
3
it’s been a few years since we’ve spoken
and i’ve had time to do some research
as it turns out, one of those stars in the sky that night
that very night, when you told me we wouldn’t last
supernova’d
some ten thousand years prior
what you thought to be a period
now becomes a comma
which is decidedly less conclusive
which means our sentence can continue
which means we are not finished
but, then again
you were never grammatically correct
